Settling in Singapore

Hi guys,

Sorry once again for keeping quiet for so long. I have been flat out busy, and unwilling to spend the few hours that I have had to spare in front of a computer... But here is finally an update!

Since my last post I have moved into my apartment here in Singapore, and after countless (OK, two) trips to IKEA and other shopping malls, I have also more or less managed to get settled.

The apartment is nice, but it was very impersonal when I moved in. The building is brand new (I am the first to live in this particular unit), and very modern. As you can see from the pictures, my apartment is all glass, mirrors, more glass and shiny black/ white marble (and comes complete with my very own bomb-shelter!)... The architect is supposedly very famous - but I guess he is more used to designing airports and shopping malls... Anyway, I think I have managed to put my own touch on it (or I got used to it?), so it is finally starting to feel like home. I still haven’t made much use of the many Jacuzzis, the huge pools, tennis-courts, BBQ-corners, the Cinema-room or the media-room - but I do enjoy working out in our rooftop gym :).

The area where I live is called Tanjong Pagar, and is located in the outskirts of the CBD - towards the harbour, about five minutes walk from Chinatown. I quite like the ambience and atmosphere around there; it’s mainly two-stories shop-houses reminiscent of the times Singapore was a fishing village, now turned into upscale stores, spa’s, bars, or restaurants. Although it’s part of the CBD there are nevertheless quite a few residential estates, and all the usual services are available within a couple of minutes walk... It takes me about 15-20 minutes to get to the office by MRT (Singapore’s Metro), so that’s also quite all right.

As of last week I also have cable TV and internet in my apartment, but the highlight has without a doubt been hiring a (part-time) maid! I am sooooo done with cleaning and ironing :-)!
